No regeneration in Dr Who finale

Fears that David Tennant's time as Doctor Who were coming to an end didn't come true in an all-action finale.

The penultimate episode had been left on a cliffhanger as the Doctor had been struck by a Dalek and it looked like he was going to regenerate.

But instead, with the help of his army of companions, the Doctor once again defeated the Daleks and evil Davros.

The final 15 minutes of the show had 9.8m viewers, which is nearly half the entire TV audience.

Packed with unexpected twists, Journey's End saw the Doctor cloned and Donna Noble became half-Time Lord.

Davros - very scary

In a moving scene, he left his cloned self - who was half-human and so will age and die - to live with Billie Piper's character Rose Tyler in another reality.

The Doctor also separated from Donna, who had to have her mind wiped of all memories of their time together, and left on his own in the Tardis.

But David Tennant's long term future as the Time Lord remains uncertain.

Dalek Caan foresaw the end

He has been confirmed to star in Doctor Who in a Christmas special this year and another three specials next year.

But those behind the show have said it is too early to confirm whether he will still be in the show when it returns in 2010.
