Huge gold discovery in Ireland

Gold bars - general photo

Gold worth hundreds of millions of pounds has been discovered in Ireland.

It was uncovered near the town of Clontibret, in County Monaghan, and is thought to be the largest source of gold ever found in Ireland or the UK.

The company that made the exciting find says it covers an area 30 miles long and, if they mine it, could be worth a staggering 450m!

Now lots of tests are being done to make sure it is worth more than it would cost to get it out of the ground.

If it is, mining could begin in less than two years time.
