Player in court over boys' deaths

Plymouth Argyle goalie Luke McCormick

A Championship footballer has appeared in court after a car crash which killed two young brothers on Saturday morning.

Arron and Ben Peak, aged 10 and eight, from Manchester, were killed and their dad was badly hurt in the accident on a motorway in Staffordshire.

Police think Plymouth Argyle goalie Luke McCormick, who wasn't hurt, had been driving dangerously after drinking alcohol when the accident happened.

Judges let him go home, but he's got to go back to court on 16 June.

The boys' mum, Amanda, went to the hearing at Stoke-on-Trent, holding a teddy bear and a framed picture of her sons.

Earlier, the Peak family said Arron had "loved life, especially football, at which he excelled" and Ben was a "happy, loving son and brother".

The brothers were on a day out with their dad, Philip, to the Silverstone racing track in Northamptonshire.

Mr Peak is thought to have broken his back and neck in the crash and is being treated in hospital.

Three other people who were also in their car were released from hospital on Saturday.
