There are eight boys and four girls competing for the UK. Here are two of the squad - Tassy Swallow, from Cornwall, and Karma Worthington, from Devon.
The week-long event kicked off with a parade of nations. This boy from Peru proudly waves his country's flag.
The surfers - who are all under 18 - have travelled from across the globe. There are teams from Hawaii, Tahiti, Australia and Brazil among other places.
Senegal are taking part in the competition for the first time this year.

Some of the surfers may be tiny, but they're fearless - the big waves of south-west France don¿t scare them at all. The competition starts on Sunday.
