Lizo reviews the new Indiana Jones movie

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Release date

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Out Now (Cert 12a)

The stars

Harrison Ford plays the adventurer and archaeologist Indiana Jones.

Shia Labeouf plays Mutt, a boy who needs Indy's help on a secret mission. And Cate Blanchett is an evil Russian spy.

The plot

Indiana is kidnapped by Russian agents who are searching for ancient artefacts.

They end up in a race halfway around the world to find a weird skull made from crystal.

They both hope that finding the skull will help them solve an even bigger mystery.

Best bits

The opening fight between Indy and the Russians is fantastic. There's a thrilling chase through the South American jungle.

Fave characters

It's Indy's film and he's by far the best character in it, especially as he hasn't gone on an adventure like this for more than 20 years and is getting a bit old.

Any weak bits?

The plot gets a bit complicated, especially towards the end, some parts of the movie are a bit too bizarre. Overall it's not quite as good as the other three Indiana Jones movies.

Hit or miss?

A big hit.

Your Comments

"I am a huge fan of IJ and this is my favourite film so far, his son is in this one he is a real hero too. The only negatives are he gets married in this one (yuck!) and he is older. What ya waiting for? Watch it, it's brill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Isabelle, 10, Yorkshire, England

"I saw the film and I thought it was great. I think the fact that there were aliens in it was different but it was a twist to the usual story. I can't wait until it comes out on DVD and until I get my hands on the DS game ever."

Caz, 13, Cheltenham, England

"I've seen eleven films so far this year (I know - that's loads!) but this Indiana Jones film was not one of my favourites. It's a good storyline, and Shia LaBeouf and Harrison Ford are good, but it did get a bit boring and the final scene is really cheesy! It's my seventh favourite film this year."

Graham, 13, Exeter, England

"It's full of excitement, and the touch of laughter makes the perfect film."

Heather, 12, Belgium

"I think that the Indiana Jones movie was really good but at times some bits were very unbelievable. The bit that let down the film for me was the alien but the aspect about the thirteen crystal skulls was really good."

Sarah, 12, Glasgow, Scotland

"The film is great and thrilling. However, it's not as good as its predecessors as Harrison Ford is more than little too old. Still a great film, though."

Charlie, 12, Maidstone, England

"I think the alien idea was a bit unlikely whereas the other films had aspects that were more likely to be true. Some parts could have been cut out but it was a brilliant film all the same."

Bekki, 12, Luton, England

"I thought that the film was amazing! It was funny to see some of the characters from the past films come back for the last one. Shia Labeouf is very funny, but I don't think he should be the new Indiana Jones because it wouldn't be the same without Harrison Ford!"

Shehani, 12, London, England

"I thought it was really good but slightly far fetched. I preferred the other films but even so this film was fantastic! I loved it!"

Lucy, 12, Somerset, England

"Great action bits and quite scary. Best film I've seen for ages. My mum thought it was absolutely fantastic!!!"

Alistair, 9, Edinburgh, Scotland

"Great film; nice to see an old hero back in action. A bit sci-fi though."

Cam, 9, Norwich, England

"I love it! I've seen a few of the Indiana Jones movies and I was a little disappointed that there were aliens, because Indiana Jones doesn't do aliens."

Lisa, 12, Norfolk, England

"This film was really spooky. Shia Labeouf was amazingly funny."

Olivia, 12, Swindon, England

"The most ridiculous movie ever. The beginning was the best but halfway through the middle it went bad. I'm giving it a generous 2 stars out of 5."

Nile, 11, Stockton, England

"I thought it was the best of them. When the bad people got eaten by the fire ants, it was really gross and it made me jump! And when the alien burned, that was really disgusting. And that bit when he found out that he had a son was just weird. But it was a really good film."

Kirsty, 13, Bedford, England

"Creepy, scary and very bone-chilling!!!"

Katie, 10, Scotland

"It was a really good, action-packed adventure. I enjoyed it even though the skeletons were a bit scary!"

Natasha, 13, East Sussex, England

"I have seen all of the Indiana Jones movies and liked them. This title sounded good, but I thought it was a disappointment, though I found the history of the Mayan empire interesting."

Melis, 11, London, England

"Amazing. I thought it would be really boring but it is just BRILLIANT!! I loved EVERY SINGLE SECOND OF IT and even though I was bursting for the toilet I refused to go! There were very surprising bits - but it was very, very good."

Hayley, 12, London, England

"I think it was a very good film. It was definitely a top conversation topic with everyone at school. My fave bit was when they discovered the truth behind the crystal skull..."

Tasha, 12, Leicester, England

"Overall I agree with most of these comments. It was really good but it didn't really put me in the position where it made me think "That's the best yet." It was good but with not enough comedy."

Shazzie, 12, Dorset, England

"I love the Indiana Jones movies and this was probably one of the best. But it was not as adventurous as expected so my rating is 4/5 stars."

Kirsty, 9, Angus, Scotland

"I have seen the all of the Indiana Jones movies and when I sat down in the pictures I expected an interesting jam-packed film with action, loads of comedy etc. I don't know why but the film didn't really put me on the edge of my seat! So I think it was the worst one out of them all. The script was good, though!"

Jane, 13, Liverpool, England

"I loved it, especially the part when the ants attacked the soldiers!"

Peter, 10, Coleraine, Northern Ireland

"I can't believe that you didn't give it 5 stars! It is absolutely brilliant and keeps you on the edge of your seat. It is the best of the Indiana Jones movies."

Katie, 12, Coleraine, Northern Ireland

"Really good film, but a lot of people are saying that they got lost near the end. I didn't but I think it's because I looked up the plot and the story up quite a few times before and after I went to see it!!!!"

Andrew, 13, Sunderland, England

"I thought the 4th Indy was good but because it had more of a sci-fi theme I preferred the original trilogy. Indiana Jones is meant to discover the past, not the future. I would rate it 5/10."

Rehana, 11, Southampton, England

"This is the best Indy movie ever! There's thrills, spills, action and one thing an Indy film wouldn't be complete without: snakes! 4/5!"

Tom, 9, London, England

"It thought it started off very good, but near the end it started to get very boring. Some bits were very loud and scary!"

Jill, 12, Orkney, Scotland

"This has to be the best Indiana Jones film there is."

James, 10, West Drayton, England

"I thought it was brilliant especially the beginning with the bit on the bike... I think it's great that Indy finally ties the knot... the best film of 2008. 5 stars."

Kim, 13, Carmarthen, Wales

"I saw it and thought it was really good with a fantastic plot. But don't you think it's a bit weird that whenever Indiana is in a life-threatening situation he always has a trapdoor beneath his feet or a rope to swing on?"

Jessica, 9, Blackburn, England

"As someone who has seen all the movies, I did not enjoy this as much, but it was still very good. I don't think it was meant to be the best, but rather to tie things up. I got lost towards the end, like most people, but I pieced everything else together really well. I was so glad that Karen Allen (Marion) was in this movie. She is my favourite girl in the trilogy. Some parts were illogical and pure fiction, but if you did not know that, it would have been very good. 4/5 stars!"

Gabbie, 14, Suffolk, England

"I think this film is great. I saw it with a friend and we loved it. Not as good as the other ones though."

Alex, 10, Rotherm, England

"I think the film was fantastic, really thrilling and enjoyable. The story was exciting, and I especially liked Shia LaBeouf"

Kate, 130, London, England

"Indiana Jones tops the list of the best films! A must see!"

Thomas, 10, Coventry, England

"I think Indiana Jones is so cool. Especially he skeletons, and when a fake town got blown up by an atomic bomb and Indiana Jones was in the fridge!"

Amy, 11, Darlington, England

"I thought the Indiana Jones film was great however I did lose the plot a little towards the end. I also thought it was funny and exciting, I would definitely go and see it again."

Ellie, 13, Billington, England

"I saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull the week it came out with my friends and I thought it was amazing, so I went to see it again. It's a real fab movie and if you're an Indie fan you will love the new film!"

Craig, 12, Dundee, Scotland

"I think it was good but some things were really unrealistic like when they fell down 3 giant waterfalls! Apart from a few confusing scenes, it was really good!"

Leah, 12, Bristol, England

"The best movie of the year and the only movie I've taken my Nan to that she hasn't fallen asleep at."

Liam, 13, Whitburn, Scotland

"I saw the film. I think it was a bit bizarre at the end but I highly recommend it!"

Fred, 10, Kingswood, England

"I have just seen it at the cinema and it is fantastic! I would give it 10/10 but it was a bit freaky in some parts."

Katy, 10, Kingswood, England
