Christian Dailly took advantage of a bad decision by goalkeeper Graeme Smith to head the Gers in front.
But Chris Porter got one in the net from close up to level matters early in the second half.
This means the Gers are now three points behind SPL leaders Celtic with a game in hand but their goal difference is seven behind.
The race for the Scottish title is nearing the end.
Rangers travel to St Mirren on Monday before ending the league fight at Pittodrie on Thursday, while Celtic visit Dundee United.
