Wildfires raging through Florida

Fire crews tackling the flames in Florida

Wildfires are raging through parts of America forcing hundreds of people to leave their homes.

Dozens of homes on Florida's central Atlantic coast have been destroyed, and more than 120 others damaged.

Some of the fires are thought to have been started deliberately and they're being made worse by the dry and windy weather, which is fanning the flames.

A state of emergency has been declared in the area so officials can ask other states for help to tackle the blazes.

The largest fire is in Palm Bay, where more than 70 houses have been damaged and 3,500 acres scorched.

All 18 schools in Palm Bay were closed on Tuesday and several main roads have been shut as the fires continue to spread.

Fire officials said they desperately needed rain, but although none had been forecast they were slowly starting to get the fires under control.
