Canoe action

One of the most impressive events to watch at the Games, especially the events held on whitewater.

That's water that moves extremely quickly downhill and has whirlpools and waterfalls in it to make it tough for the canoeists.

The competitors have to go down the course and get through a series of gates in order, without hitting any of them.

Sometimes they need to fight their way upstream against the current, which is very tough.

There are also flat water events where the competitors are placed in lanes and have to race each other across distances of either 500m or 1,000m.
