The ancient monument of Stonehenge has stood in Wiltshire for thousands of years, but nobody really knows what it's doing there.

In the past, lots of people tried to find out, but there hasn't been an excavation at the site for over 40 years.

Now, archaeologists have started work to try and discover the secrets of the ancient stones.


They will try and find out exactly when, and why, the monument was built, and what it was used for.
