Beaker author's advice for kids

Dame Jacqueline Wilson

Dame Jacqueline Wilson has been handing out some advice for kids, telling them not to be in too much of a hurry to grow up!

Dame Jacqueline, 62, said when SHE was 11 she was still wearing ankle socks and sandals and playing with dolls!

Newsround chatted to the creator of Tracy Beaker about growing up, designer clothes, and all your fave characters.

This survey says that childhood ends when you're 11, and when I saw that I thought 'Oh help!'.

I played with dolls at 11, I wore my ankle socks and sandals.

I know nowadays girls want to look cool, they want to look glamorous and grown up.

I do understand that, but I also think you're a child for just a short space of time.

Don't hurry too quickly to become an adult.

I try and write about children as they really are.

I know perfectly well what girls of 10, 11 and 12 want to do.

"I don't, I hope, give the impression that the only way to be is to have designer clothes and to be able to have lots of piercings and everything.

I try very hard indeed to say it is fine just to be the way you want to be.

You don't have to hurry up into adulthood.
