Girl killed in school bus crash

Bus crash

A teenage girl has died and seven other pupils hurt in a crash between a school bus and a lorry in Northern Ireland.

The bus was carrying about eight pupils from St Ciaran's High School in Ballygawley and seven from St Mary's Primary School in Cabragh.

The accident happened as the bus turned into St Mary's at about 8.30am, and five ambulances went to the scene.

One of the injured children is in a serious condition, and a driver was also hurt. One man has been arrested.

The bus ended up in a field, and the road was closed off following the crash.

Seatbelts

It's thought the vehicle was fitted with seatbelts, and that the children were used to wearing them.

A local councillor said there had been other serious accidents on the same stretch of road.
