Shoes to protect police dog paws

Police dog modelling its new shoes
Police dogs in Germany are being trained to wear shoes to protect their paws when they're on patrol.

Officers in Dusseldorf say their team of 20 German and Belgian Shepherds are at risk from all the glass bottles being smashed in the streets.

It's hoped the plastic shoes will help to stop the dogs cutting their paws.

The animals have spent two weeks learning to put their best paw forward in the shoes and it's hoped they'll be wearing them on patrol next month.

The shoes haven't been specially made for Dusseldorf Police - apparently they're available for anyone to buy!
