Turkey puppet goes to Eurovision

Dustin The Turkey

Ireland are hoping that a puppet called Dustin the Turkey will win this year's Eurovision Song Contest.

The children's favourite was plucked out as the best of six finalists by Irish voters.

They decided the puppet's performance would be the one to ruffle some feathers at the song contest in Belgrade in Serbia in May.

Dustin sings a song called Irelande Douze Pointe, which is a take-off of Eurovision scoring.

Dustin has been a star of various local television programmes for almost 20 years.

Ireland has won the contest a record seven times and took the title three years in a row during the 1990s.

But in recent years it has done badly.

In 2007 Ireland came last and it will now be up to Dustin to do better.

Since he first became famous, Dustin has become somewhat of a celebrity figure, even once running unsuccessfully for president of Ireland.
