Good results for UK footie teams

Yakubu scored a hat-trick

Four of the five British sides who were in action in the Uefa Cup on Thursday night have got through to the last 16 of the competition.

Everton scored a 6-1 victory over SK Brann and Spurs drew 1-1 with Slavia Prague, but progressed because they won the first leg 2-1.

Bolton drew 0-0 with Atletico Madrid but went through on a first leg win.

Rangers, who played Panathinaikos, won on away goals after drawing 1-1 in Greece, but Aberdeen were knocked out.

They were outclassed by Bayern Munich, losing 5-1 on the night.

A Yakubu hat-trick helped Everton to their easy win.

He gave Everton the lead, with Andrew Johnson's drive doubling the score minutes later.

Yakubu was on target again before a deflected shot by Mikel Arteta added to Everton's total.

Away goals rule

A tap-in gave Yakubu his third and Johnson's spectacular goal sealed the win.

Rangers looked to be going out of the contest after trailing Panathinaikos for most of their game.

But an 81st-minute strike from Nacho Novo made sure they went through on the away goals rule.
