Police in West Yorkshire searching for a nine-year-old girl who has been missing since Tuesday, say they hope to find her safe and well.

Shannon Matthews was last seen by teachers leaving her school in Dewsbury at 3.10pm, after a swimming trip.

When Shannon didn't come home she was reported missing, and now more than 200 police officers are searching for her.

They said they were worried because of the cold weather, and asked anyone who knew where she might be to call them.

Chief Superintendent Barry South said Shannon was wearing a black puffa jacket, and some pink and grey Bratz boots when she went missing.

He said: "My priority at this moment in time is to locate Shannon safe and well."

Shannon has shoulder length brown hair, that could have been tied up in a ponytail, and is slim, with blue eyes and freckles.

Police have searched the local area for her, and spoken to her friends and family.

Lots of local people were also out searching for her until the early hours of the morning.

It's important to remember that incidents like this are very rare.
