Get set for a new Star Wars film

The Clone Wars

A new animated Star Wars movie is to blast into cinemas later this year, followed by a new cartoon TV series.

The film will be shown in American cinemas from 1 August. A release date for UK cinemas isn't known yet.

The movie will combine the first three episodes of the Clone Wars TV series, which is set between the live action films of episodes II and III.

Star Wars boss creator George Lucas said: "I felt there were a lot more stories left to tell."

He added: "I was eager to start telling some of them through animation."

The animated TV show will be a series of 30-minute long episodes.

That's not the end of the Star Wars spin-offs either, as a live action TV series is planned as well.
