Rioting over Naples rubbish row

Riots have broken out in the south of Italy where rubbish has been piling up in the streets for weeks after a row over where it should be dumped.

Rubbish collectors in Naples gave up trying to collect bins before Christmas and the local dumps are full.

Some schools have been shut and people are worried that dangerous toxins are getting into their water supply.

The Italian government called in the army to re-open a dump, but people said there was no point as it was too full.

Although things have got worse recently, the problem has been around for a long time.

Gangs of criminals called the Mafia are thought to be partly responsible.

It's thought they've been making money by collecting rubbish from all over Italy and filling up Naples' tips with it.
