Shipwreck wood washed up on beach

Wood washed up on beach

Thousands of planks of wood have been washed up on a beach in south-east England after the ship it was being carried on sank off the Dorset coast.

The wood has come from a ship called the Ice Prince which sank last week in gale-force winds and rough seas.

The timber has scattered all the way from Littlehampton in West Sussex, to Beachy Head in East Sussex.

Coastguards who are busy collecting up the stray planks from the beach with the help of diggers.

People are being told to stay away from the area and anyone who spots the wood is being told to contact coastguards.

Windsurfers and canoeists are also being warned to keep away just in case floating wood causes a serious accident.
