Queen's Christmas message online

Queen Elizabeth II

The Queen is going hi-tech with her Christmas message this year, allowing people to watch it on the internet.

The Queen has been given her very own channel on video-sharing site YouTube and she's going to use it to send out her annual Christmas speech.

There'll also be loads of other stuff on the online channel, including lots of videos of the Royal Family.

Buckingham Palace hopes the channel will help the Queen reach a new young audience around the world.

"I very much hope that this new medium will make my Christmas message more personal and direct," Her Majesty said.

The Queen delivered her very first TV message live to the nation and its colonies on 25 December 1957.

The launch on YouTube is to celebrate the 50th anniversary of that original broadcast.

The Queen is no stranger to technology!

Last year's Christmas message was released as a podcast.
