Pirate wreck found in Caribbean

Divers studying the shipwreck

American sea explorers have discovered the 300-year-old wreck of a ship they think belonged to a real life pirate.

The team of divers came across the wreckage just off the Dominican islands in the Caribbean.

They think the ship, called the Quedagh Merchant, was captured by a Scotsman named Captain Kidd in 1699, but was abandoned soon after.

Divers have been searching for the ship for years. But it was plundered of all its treasure before it sank.

The wreck is going to be studied by experts and will eventually be turned into an underwater museum for divers and snorkelers.
