Hairspray up for top film awards


Hit musical Hairspray has been nominated for the best musical or comedy prize at the American film ceremony the Golden Globes.

Star Nikki Blonsky, who played Tracy Turnblad, is up for best actress in the musical and comedy category, and John Travolta is also up for an award.

Meanwhile, Ratatouille is up against Bee Movie and The Simpsons Movie for the title of best animated film.

The winners will be unveiled at a ceremony on 13 January in Los Angeles.

Set in the 1960s, Hairspray follows Tracy in her quest to become a dancer.

Packed full of catchy songs and dance routines, it also stars High School Musical's Zac Efron.

The winners of the Golden Globes often go on to do really well at the Oscars, which will take place a month later in Hollywood.
