Kids' bid to bin all plastic bags

In Britain we get through a whopping 13bn plastic bags every year, but kids in north Devon want that to change.

They want people to use stronger bags made from re-usable materials, as it's hard to get rid of the plastic ones.

Some of them end up in dumps where they take centuries to rot away, while other unwanted bags are left in places where they can hurt animals and wildlife.

So some kids have designed their own bags, that they hope people will use instead of plastic ones.

The kids in South Molton have been selling the bags to shops in the hope they'll give them out to customers.

Josh, Jessica and Ryan

Josh, 11, said: "I think people prefer our bags because they're not plastic ad they're eco-friendly."

Ryan, 12, said: "You don't have to chuck them away. You can use them forever."

Jessica, 12, said: "I think they would like to use the ones we are selling because they have got designs on them and are quite cool."

Lots of other cities and villages across the UK are thinking about ditching plastic bags for good, including London, Leicester and Dundee.
