United close the gap on Arsenal

Manchester United closed the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal to one point with a 4-1 win over Derby County on Saturday.

Ryan Giggs opened the scoring for United just before the break with his 100th league goal for the club.

Carlos Tevez scored twice and Cristiano Ronaldo netted a penalty for United, with Steve Howard on target for Derby.

Elsewhere, goals from Andriy Shevchenko and Frank Lampard gave third-placed Chelsea a 2-0 victory over Sunderland.

Everton beat Fulham 3-0 thanks to a second-half hat-trick from Yakubu and two goals from Sulley Muntari helped Portsmouth to a 3-1 win over Aston Villa.

In a late kick-off, Reading beat Liverpool 3-1.

A Stephen Hunt penalty put Reading in front, before Stephen Gerrard equalised.

But goals from Kevin Doyle and James Harper condemned the Reds to their first league defeat of the season.
