Is school important to you?

School children

It's Newsround's 35th birthday so we thought we'd find out exactly what kids think about life in 2007.

In our survey - called All About You - kids said just over half of the conversations they have with their family at home were about school.

And three out of ten said doing well at school was more important than getting on with their family.

How about YOU?

Is school important to you? If yes, WHY is it important?

Maybe there are more important things in your life? What are they?

Unfortunately these comments are now closed, but there are other topics on the Chat page.

Your comments

"Family is more important to me than school because school will give you good marks and a job, but your family will always be there for you and help you through life. When you are old and sick school won't look after you, it will probably be your daughter or son."

Kirsten, 11, Calderdale, England

"I go to boarding school. School is like a home to me because I can only see my family in the holidays and half-term. I find it fun here and I can spend 24 hours a day with my friends!"

Sally, 11, Darlington, England

"Family is probably more important than school because they have supported you through your life. School is also important because that is where you learn and get your job qualifications."

Vicky, 10, Bedford, England

"School is important in our lives to make you grow to be a good person, but parents are more important - because they are the people closest to you."

Andrew, 12, London, England

"School is very important to me. I try really hard and my main focus is school. I want to get marks so that when I'm older I can get a well paid job that I want. Also, so I can make my parents proud!"

Olivia, 13, Coventry, England

"I think that education is important for me and children everywhere because if you have no education you can't get a job or a house, but I have to say school is very boring. The way the teachers teach, it feels like you want to go to sleep and that's why I think most children don't like school. But I know it is important for my future."

Lydia, 10, Ilford, England

"School is very important to me. It's were I see my friends and do loads of activities. My ambitions are to get A*s in my GSCE and As at A-level and then go to you uni. I feel my school work is too easy though."

Beth, 12, Cheshire, England

"I believe that school is very important and without school we wouldn't do as good in stuff, but families are just as important!"

Sophie, 11, Eastbourne, England

"I do think school is important but, if you don't get on with your family, how are you going to concentrate at school?"

Cerys, 11, Stroud, England

"Yes! School is important to me because it is my home! I go to boarding school and only go home on holidays. I think school is extremely important."

Alicia, 12, Oakham, England

"I think family is important because they love you. School is nice too because you can learn."

Bianca, 7, London, England

Natalie, 9, Wiltshire, England

"I think school is very important, but getting along with your family is important as well. Also, family matters can affect your school work."

Caitlin, 10, Essex, England

"School's important in a way, but everybody thinks it's boring and they start to fail."

Megan, 9, Renfrewshire, Scotland

"School is important to me because I'd like to be a journalist when I leave school. If I haven't done my GCSEs and done well in them, I can't really hope to be a very good journalist can I?"

Madi, 13, Gwynedd, Wales

"Yes, school is important to me. I think it's silly that some people think it's a waste of time just because they want to act cool. School offers you the qualifications needed for a good job and also it is a good place to meet up with your friends. It doesn't have to be boring, it can be fun as well!"

Lauren, 12, London, England

"I like school because you get to see your friends and learn."

Mark, 8, Norwich, England

"School is really important to me because I want a big job that will make me enough money to live on!"

Olivia, 10, Hampshire, England

"School is quite important to me because I won't be able to get a good job when I am older without a good education. But family is very important to me."

Kieran, 10, Aberdeen, Scotland

"I think school is important but not more important than your family."

"In my opinion your priority after spending time with your family is education. School is very important to me but I am NOT fond of exams."

Aimen, 10, Riffa, Bahrain

Vania, 11, Bogor, Indonesia

Joshua, 12, Liverpool, England

"I think that school is really important because it helps you get good test results and, later on, SATs and GSCEs and that will determine what type of job you get."

Matt, 13, Devon, England

"Well, I consider school kind of important because I hate missing school and then copying notes afterwards. I'd also miss my friends."

Alicia, 11, Doncaster, England

"I think school is important, if you want to get a half-decent job you need qualifications, and where better to get them than at school? But I think that the most important thing about school isn't the marks, it's hanging around with people your own age and learning how to get on with people you don't like."

Lizi, 13, Oxfordshire, England
