- Newsround picked up a Bafta for best factual programme in 1981.
- We started holding 'mock elections' in the 80s too, where kids got to say who they would vote for.
- John Craven, who's still the show's longest-running presenter, said his highlight at Newsround was meeting Mother Theresa in 1984. She devoted her life to helping poor people.
- Some other presenters joined John in 1986 - they were called Roger Finn and Helen Rollason.
Newsround's first kid reporters
|
- The first children reported for Newsround in 1988. They were Becky Branford, 11, and Dan Mee, 14. They did a report on how money for Sport Aid was being spent.
- This led to the creation of the Newsround Newshound club for kids who wanted to be journalists - this was re-named Press Pack in 1992
.
- John Craven left Newsround in June 1989 - sniff! He now presents Countryfile.
