Heart scare made Lily get fit

Lily Allen

Singer Lily Allen has revealed she lost weight because doctors discovered she had a problem with her heart.

There were worries when the 22-year-old lost loads of weight to drop from a size 12 to an eight in just six weeks.

But the Smile star said the weight came off after she learned that she had a heart murmur, which can be harmless or point to something more serious.

The pop singer told a magazine that she lost weight to improve her health rather than become a "skinny minnie".

The problem was found during a routine check-up and Lily said she found the news "really quite scary".

She said: "I make sure I work out three times a week now, and I don't hold back.

"I used to love nothing more than sitting in front of the telly with two packets of Ginger Nuts and two bags of milk bottle sweets - and I'd devour the lot.

"But this heart thing has made me cut back on all that."
