Swan survives crossbow attack

Is this swan Britain's toughest bird?

This swan could be the toughest bird in Britain after surviving a crossbow attack, being shot with airguns and shotguns AND swallowing a fish hook!

The seven-year-old bird was rushed to an RSPCA animal centre after being found with a crossbow bolt through its neck at a park in Liverpool.

While treating him, vets also found pellets from different guns under his skin and evidence of other attacks.

The RSPCA said he'd had a rough time, but was making a "fantastic recovery".

Dr Andrew Kelly, from the animal charity, said the swan was expected to make a full recovery and be released back to the park where his family are waiting for him.

But he slammed those responsible for the attacks and encouraged anyone who witnesses cruelty to any animal to report it to the RSPCA or the police.

"The fact this swan has suffered such a high number of attacks by airguns, shotguns and now a crossbow is indicative of the rising tide of violence against wildlife," he said.
