People clueless about geography

Satellite image of UK and part of Europe

If geography isn't one of your favourite subjects it seems you're not alone as loads of us don't know some of the world's biggest geographical facts.

Researchers found one in three people thought Mount Everest, in Nepal, was actually in the Swiss Alps or the UK.

And half of all those asked didn't know the Nile in Egypt is widely thought to be the world's longest river.

Our local knowledge isn't any better - lots of people think their most visited local landmark is the local DIY shop!

The research has been carried out as part of geography awareness week, which aims to boost people's knowledge about the world we live in.
