Panda seeks girlfriend in China

Mei Sheng
Mei Sheng the giant panda has arrived in China - to find a girlfriend!

The four-year-old was born in America. He has travelled to the Wolong Giant Panda Nature Reserve, where it's hoped he'll hook up with a female.

It's very important that more giant pandas are born because the creatures are in danger of dying out.

Mei Sheng will spend a few months getting used to his new surroundings before he is introduced to any possible girlfriends with whom he can breed.

He will return to America at some point in the future, but it was agreed that he'd make this trip to improve his species' chances of survival.

Mei Sheng made the journey in a large cage, stocked with water, apples and bamboo.
