TV writers walk out in America

The writers have gone on strike

A group of people who play an important role in what we watch on TV and at the cinema have gone on strike in America.

They're the people who write the scripts and they're not happy about what they're being paid.

Almost 12,000 of them have decided to stop working to protest after failing to get what they're after in a series of meetings with bosses.

Most of the writers work for TV shows and film studios. Their action has already had a knock-on effect on TV.

Several channels have had to show repeats because of the staff walk-out.

But it's not thought the strike will have an immediate effect on films, because studios have got lots of scripts in to keep them going.
