Fire breaks out at Alton Towers

Theme park fun

Thrill-seekers enjoying a Halloween event at one of Britain's biggest theme parks were evacuated when one of the attractions caught fire on Sunday.

Fire crews were called to Alton Towers in Staffordshire to tackle the blaze at one of the Skyride cable car stations.

Guests were moved to a safe part of the park while the flames were put out. They were at an event called Scarefest.

Alton Towers was opening on Monday, but the cable car will stay closed until the park shuts on 11 November.

Other rides may also be affected.

One staff member said: "A fire in one of the Skyride stations was reported at 7.35pm.

"The fire service were called at 7.37pm and arrived at 8pm.

"No guests were harmed even though part of the park was evacuated."

Investigators are trying to find out what caused the fire.
