TV book club made just for kids

Books in a bookshop

Good news for book worms - a new book club's been launched just for you.

School kids across the UK have helped TV presenters Richard and Judy pick the first eight books for their new club, Richard and Judy's Children's Books.

The list includes titles for kids aged five to 12 to get stuck into, including Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy and Spy Dog by Andrew Cope.

The idea of the club is to help to get more of you reading books you'll love and can discuss with all your mates.

The first eight books...
Aliens Love Underpants Claire Freedman and Ben Cort
Poppy and Max and the Fashion Show Sally Grindley and Lindsey Gardiner
Spy Dog Andrew Cope
The World According to Humphrey Betty G Birney
HIVE Higher Institute of Villainous Education
Mark Walden
Skulduggery Pleasant
Derek Landy
Girl, Missing Sophie McKenzie
The Recruit
Robert Muchamore
The titles are split into four age groups and were selected with help from pupils from schools in Kent, Hertfordshire, Richmond upon Thames and Sheffield. Richard and Judy first launched a book club for adults in 2004, by featuring a different title on their TV show every week.

The club has been really popular and the TV duo are hoping to have a similar impact on kids.

Judy said: "It's really important that, in this DVD age, kids are encouraged to read as well as watch."
