Police pups looking for new homes

A police pup

This pup looks ready to report for duty...

Police in the south of England are on the lookout for puppy carers to help care for their trainee police pups.

Devon and Cornwall police need volunteers to look after a German Shepherd police puppy for up to a year before their real training begins.

The pups might look cute and cuddly, but they need lots of looking after, a friendly home and lots of exercise.

Sergeant Paul Glennon said: "The aim is to prepare the puppy for life as a confident and social police dog."

After a year, the pups will have to complete all sorts of tests to see if they've got a good chance of becoming a police dog.
