Attention, Star Wars fans! A TV series based on the hit films is on its way.

Star Wars creator George Lucas has confirmed that he's started work on the show, as well as revealing snippets of info about what viewers can expect.

He says the series will be based on "minor characters" - which means villain Darth Vadar and Luke Skywalker probably won't be in it.

"It's completely different," Lucas explained. "But it's a good idea, and it's going to be a lot of fun to do."

A Star Wars cartoon series is also coming out.

The action is set between the events shown in the Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith films.

The first Star Wars film was released in 1977.

A further five films and lots of other projects based on the series have since come out.
