Kangaroo hops between racing cars

Phew! That was close

There was a hoppy ending for this lucky kangaroo who bounced on to a car racing track in Australia.

A big motorsport event - called the Bathhurst 1000 - was well underway, with cars racing at top speed, when the creature decided to get in on the fun.

Stunned drivers must have thought they were imagining things as they swerved to avoid the kangaroo.

It looked like the creature might not make it, but then it bounded off the track as if nothing had happened.

The drivers were taking part in qualifying for the race in New South Wales.

The town of Bathurst hosts the 1,000km touring car race every year and it's a big event in the sporting calendar.
