Liverpool's Fernando Torres bagged a hat-trick in 4-2 victory against Reading in the Carling Cup.
The Spanish striker made sure the Reds reached the fourth round with three goals in the second half.
Earlier Yossi Benayoun put Liverpool in front, before Bobby Convey and John Halls found the net for Reading.
Arsenal were also winners, beating Newcastle 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium with goals from Nicklas Bendtner and Denilson in the last 10 minutes.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger kept only two players from the weekend's 5-0 win against Derby, preferring to give younger players a game.
But they were still too strong for Newcastle, who also rested some players.
Portsmouth and Manchester City were also Premier League winners, both 1-0, against Burnley and Norwich.
