Book 7 - The Deathly Hallows

The Deathly Hallows

First line:

The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow moonlit lane.

Chapters: 36

Plot: Harry turns 17 and is "of age" so loses the magical protection the Dursleys give him, but is legally allowed to do magic outside of Hogwarts.

Harry, Ron and Hermione stay out of Hogwarts as they attempt to track down and destroy the remaining Horcruxes.

Voldemort is so powerful that he is in virtual control of the Ministry of Magic, and as such puts Severus Snape in charge of Hogwarts, along with a number of his fellow Death Eaters.

Harry and his pals begin tracking down the Horcruxes.

As they get closer to finding the Horcruxes Harry becomes aware of the Deathly Hallows, three magical objects that could perhaps give the wizard or witch that owns them eternal life and power.

Voldemort is also chasing one of them - an all-powerful wand that the Dark Lord believes will help him defeat Harry.

Harry and Voldemort's minds are still linked, and Harry learns that another of the Horcruxes is at Hogwarts.

Harry and Voldemort's story ends with a huge fight; The Battle of Hogwarts. Of course we're not going to say who wins or loses that final fight...

DADA teacher (and their fate): Death Eater Amycus Carrow (his sister Alecto is the Muggle Studies teacher). Although with Snape in charge of the school, the subject is just - The Dark Arts.

Best Neville moment: Neville proves once and for all that he is indeed a true Gryffindor (as if anyone was in any doubt) when he takes the sword of Godric Gryffindor from the sorting hat and uses it to destroy the only remaining Horcrux.

Last line: The scar had not pained Harry for nineteen years. All was well.
