Potter films most successful ever

Dumbledore's Army

The Harry Potter films have become the most successful film series ever.

The boy wizard's big screen adventures have taken a whopping 2.2 billion at box offices around the world.

That's more than the 22 James Bond films, which have taken 2.19 billion, and even beats the six Star Wars movies, which have taken 2 billion.

But it's not over yet. The sixth Potter film is due for release next year with the seventh and final film adaptation of JK Rowling's books expected in 2010.

The latest film, The Order of the Phoenix, has taken more than 454 million on its own so far and is still being shown in several countries.

It went straight to the top of the UK box office in July, taking six times as much as its nearest rival in just three days.
