I won a trophy for fishing

Press Packer Frances

Frances entered a fishing competition and she did so well that she was entered into the finals.

The contest was organised by Cheshire Police as they wanted to get kids interested in different sports and for them to mix with policemen.

Read on to find out how Frances did in the final.

"On the morning of the final I woke up to glorious sunshine. When we arrived there were lots of people there - approximately 140 people attending the competition.

I was very scared because there were lots of people and I wondered if I would win any trophies for anything like biggest fish, first place, second place or even third place!

'Oh no!'

I went to my position and set up, then the whistle went and it was fishing time. But the big question was - would the fish bite?

First of all, I was fishing underneath a tree and I was pulling them in. But then it went a bit quieter so I fished further out and I was bringing them in there as well. I missed a few big ones and I was thinking 'Oh no, I can't believe I missed it'.

I also got caught in the tree a few a times as well because it was in an awkward place.

Nervous

People were walking around and we heard that some people had caught some really big ones which made me even more nervous.

When the final whistle went after I had brought my pole in, I really needed to go to the toilet and so did my cousin, so we went to the toilet and it just so happened that they weighed mine while I wasn't there. So when I got back my dad said my fish had been weighed and my weight was 11 pounds 8 ounces of bream and roach.

Trophies

Then me and my dad packed away our stuff and put it in the car, and we went to stand near the trophies.

First of all we did the raffle and my number came out! So I chose a rod.

And then they went onto trophies and awards. I won two trophies - one for second place in the under 13s, and one for top female.

It was the best day of my life."
