Rock stars to DJ for Radio 1

Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl, Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner, Sir Paul McCartney and Gwen Stefani

Loads of bands and rock stars will have a go at being Radio 1 DJs to help the station celebrate its 40th birthday.

The Arctic Monkeys and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl are among those who'll be hosting their own shows and playing the tunes that inspired them.

It's not all about recent bands though, there's some big names for your mum and dad too, including Sir Paul McCartney and Kelly Osbourne's dad, Ozzy.

The shows will be on air between 17-28 September, starting with Sir Paul's.

The series is called Radio 1 Legends and will include shows by Oasis' Noel Gallagher, Gwen Stefani, Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim), Paul Weller and Paul Oakenfold.

As part of the anniversary, Radio 1's DJs of today will also co-host shows with DJs from the stations early years.

On 30 September, the date of the station's first broadcast in 1967, breakfast show DJ Chris Moyles will host a show with Tony Blackburn - who was the first DJ to appear on the network.
