Single review: Shayne Ward - If That's OK With You

Shayne Ward

Release date

September 24th

The sound

Two years ago, Shayne Ward won the second series of hit reality TV series The X Factor. His debut single went straight to number one and his debut album was a best-seller. But about a year ago he disappeared into pop obscurity.

He moved to Los Angeles in America to recover from a throat operation and record his second album. Now he's back with a whole new sound.

Forget the slow ballads he released before, If That's OK With You is a much more upbeat pop song. Some people are now comparing him to Justin Timberlake and it's easy to see why.

The words

It's all about Shayne wanting to show his girlfriend how much he loves her and make her feel special. As long as it's OK with her, of course.

"I'm gonna make you feel like you are heaven on earth. I'm gonna thank your mother just for giving you birth," he sings, adding, "If that's OK with you" several times throughout the song. We get it, Shayne, you're a polite young fella.

Will you still be humming it next week?

It's a sweet song that's sure to appeal to Shayne's fans and maybe attract a few new ones. It doesn't hurt that he's not bad to look at either.

Will it make the charts?

If That's OK With You probably won't be Shayne's biggest hit. Shayne Ward might struggle convincing people to give his new sound a chance. It's a good comeback single for Shayne nonetheless. We're expecting good things from his second album.
