No foot-and-mouth at Chessington

Chessington World of Adventures

The childrens' zoo at Chessington World has been given the all-clear after worries about foot-and-mouth disease.

Dr Debby Reynolds, the UK's chief vet, said that tests showed animals at the theme park didn't have the disease.

Earlier, Chessington bosses said one of their sheep had showed signs of the disease during a health check.

They called a vet to check up on it and make sure it didn't have the disease, and closed parts of the park to make sure it didn't spread.

Dr Reynolds said tests on animals at a farm in Kent showed they didn't have the disease either.

No risk to humans

Foot-and-mouth affects cows, pigs, sheep, goats and deer.

But it can be passed on by other animals and even humans.

Experts say there is no risk to humans or pets.
