Dance mat lessons hit US schools

Dance mat lessons

Dance mats could be the key to solving the health problems of kids in one American state.

Schools in West Virginia are basing exercise lessons on an arcade game called Dance Dance Revolution.

Half of the children in the state are overweight and one in four of them are showing early signs of heart disease.

Health officials hope the new-look lessons will have the kids dancing their way back to fitness, while having lots of fun.

The lessons are a big hit with some kids.

One said: "It's really good because it gets you moving and sweating a lot - it's a good workout."

Another dance mat fan added: "It's not like a competitive sport and everyone is a good sport about it."

Dance mat lessons will be available in every school in West Virginia by the end of the year.
