Flooding threat getting worse

Flooded: Tewkesbury Abbey in Gloucestershire

The risk of more flooding in central and western England is getting worse as water levels in two rivers are rising.

It's feared that water levels on the Severn and the Thames may reach their highest points for 60 years.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has visited Gloucestershire, where the power supply has been cut off at thousands of homes after a power station was closed.

Up to 350,000 people in Gloucestershire will be left without running water by Monday evening.

A centre which makes water drinkable has been flooded, meaning the supply has ahd to be shut off.

People there are being warned not to panic and to make sure they save water.

Elsewhere, severe flood warnings are in place for the Midlands, Oxfordshire and Bedfordshire.

Forecasters said more rain was expected in many areas on Monday, but the heaviest downpours would be in southern England, between the Isle of Wight and Suffolk.
