Theatre review: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Lee Mead

Review by Jessica, eight, from St Albans
Show details

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is at the Adelphi Theatre, London.

The stars

Joseph is played by Lee Mead, the winner of TV show Any Dream Will Do. He is the main star and you can even buy badges with his face on - we did!

The plot

The musical is based on a Bible story and most people know the story - and the songs!

Jessica with her programme
Joseph is one of 12 brothers. His dad gives him a multicoloured coat but his brothers get jealous.

His brothers sell him off to be a slave and eventually Joseph ends up in prison, all alone.

But he's good at figuring out what dreams mean and gets a good job in Egypt, working for the Pharaoh - and his brothers come back begging for food.

Best bits

Seeing Joseph was a marvellous experience and when everyone saw Lee they screamed and screamed and screamed!

When the curtain went up and the show began, there were loads of bright colours and from then on, there was just one great scene after another.

My favourite bit was when Joseph was being taken to Egypt and there's a singing camel and snake as they were a bit of a surprise and you don't know who was singing.

Fave characters

I have seen Joseph three times and this was the best one. I think Lee was good, considering he was chosen from a TV show.

I think the audience really like him and when he came on the stage they started to scream and I couldn't hear myself shouting. He looked liked he was really enjoying the cheering.

He was a very good singer and dancer. I especially liked when he sang Any Dream Will Do. It must be like a dream come true for him.

I also liked the Narrator, Preeya Kalidas, because she was a very good singer and pretty.

Any weak bits?

No, the show was great and I would go again.

Hit or miss?

Definitely a hit.

"The show was brilliant and when the show ended I kept looking at Lee until the curtain went down! I bought a t-shirt with Lee's face on it and proudly wore it around London when I went to spend my birthday money. It was a night I will never forget. I have a big poster with Lee on it on my wall."
