Elephants' surprise for residents

You may be used to waking up and seeing birds or squirrels playing in your garden but imagine opening the curtains and spotting an elephant on the lawn.

That's what happened to residents in Ontario, Canada, when circus elephants Bunny and Suzy went for a wander.

The power supply to the electric fence that usually keeps them safe got unplugged so they decided to explore.

Apart from a few trampled lawns, no one was hurt and their trainer, Ian, soon caught up with them to take them home.

He said he was just glad the animals were safe and sound after their early morning stroll.

"Like a child, when they realise that it's an open door, well, they're going to go for a little stroll," he said.
