Bear cub Knut making zoo millions

Polar bear Knut

Celebrity polar bear cub Knut is making his zoo in Germany millions of pounds.

Knut, who is now six months old, hit the headlines in March after his mother rejected him and keepers at Berlin Zoo had to step in to look after him.

It caused a huge row at the time as some people thought it was wrong for a wild animal to be raised by humans.

But hundreds of people queue to visit the furry predator every day and he's such a hit the zoo are selling loads of Knut toys, DVDs and even necklaces.

This year, the zoo's expected to make about 1.5million more than it usually does.

Zoo bosses said Knut's presence at the zoo wasn't just about making money and also helped to highlight environmental issues.

"Our goals are to focus on global warming as well as protection of habitats," they said.
