1973: Born Ryan Joseph Wilson on 29 November in Cardiff. In 1991, he changes his last name to Giggs - which was his mum's name before she got married.
1990: Signs as a trainee with Manchester United in July. Turns professional at the start of December.
1991: Makes United debut aged 17 as a substitute against Everton. Two months later he starts his first match and scores the winner against Man City.
1992: Becomes the youngest footballer to represent Wales when he plays against Germany aged 17 years and 322 days. Voted PFA Young Player of the Year.
1999: Helps the United squad complete an historic treble of Champions League, Premiership and FA Cup.
2001: Sent off for the first time in his career for two bookable offences as Wales lose 3-2 in Norway.
2002: Scores 100th goal for United in all competitions with a strike against Chelsea.
2003: Elbows Russia's Vadim Evseev in Euro 2004 play-off. He is suspended for two international matches.
2005: Signs new contract for United, which means he will play for them through to June 2008.
2007: Wins ninth Premiership title with Manchester United. Here he is celebrating with his kids. Announces his retirement from international football.
