Film review: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

Press Packer Naomi beat thousands of other Press Packers to win our competition to see this film before anyone else.

So we asked her to write this special review for us.

Release date

May 24 (cert 12A)

The stars

Our favourite pirate crew are back for this third instalment, Johnny Depp as the crazy Captain Jack Sparrow, Orlando Bloom as Will Turner and Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann. I'm also very pleased that Geoffrey Rush who plays Barbossa has a major role in this film, I think Barbossa is a bit of a rogue and it was good to see him back on the screen.

The plot

In this adventure Will and Elizabeth first must go on a mission to rescue Captain Jack from the dead. They then call on the nine Pirate Lords from all over the world to help them defeat Davy Jones who is under the control of Lord Beckett - he's trying to rid the world of pirates.

Best bits

I liked it when the Pirate Lords got together for the pirate meeting. They all had very different characters and it was quite funny. The action sequences were really good too, they looked great and it felt like you were in the film with them.

Fave characters

Press Packer Naomi
Captain Jack is still very funny and he does lots of crazy stunts and I admire him for that!

He has a good heart even if he does do bad things. I like his mischievous character.

I liked Captain Barbossa too. He, like Captain Jack, is a bit of a rogue.

Any weak bits?

Overall, I thought the film went on for too long. And in some parts I thought it was a bit soppy, especially between Will and Elizabeth!

I thought it was a bit gruesome too in some parts - so be warned!

Hit or miss?

It's definitely a hit, a must for fans of the first two films. But if you haven't seen Pirates 1 and 2, I would recommend you seeing them before you see this one - otherwise you won't understand what is going on!

NR rating:

Four out of five

Your Comments

"I didn't quite understand the start but as it moved on I got more into the film. I thought that it was definitely better than Spider-man 3. Although the end was a bit long. It just needed to finish."

Katy, 11, Burton-on-Trent

"I got a bit confused at the start of it but it was kinda funny. I never knew whose side Jack Sparrow was on!"

Danielle, 13, Suffolk

"An absolute swashbuckling film. Easily one of the best out of the three Pirate films! The ending will quite literally knock you head over heels. Two characters die and the Duchman gets a new captain! An easy must-see with great acting from Geoffrey Bush and Johnny Depp, there's a very funny scene with telescopes."

Harry, 11, London

"It was great, but not as good as the first!"

Lucy, 10, Bristol

"I loved Pirates of the Caribbean 3! I think it was better than the other two and it is such a shame that it was the last! I would definitely recommend this film to true Pirate fans everywhere!"

Emma, 13, Anglesey

"The film is fantastic, it is really funny but I got a bit confused at some points."

Emily, 10, Upminster

"It was amazing! You never knew what would happen next. There was a lot of suspense, action, romance and comedy. I would rate it 5 stars!"

Mia, 10, London

"I watched the film on Thursday and I think it was amazing! I was practically jumping in my seat when it started! I think it's going to be a huge hit. However some of the parts were hard to understand. Other than that, Johnny and Orlando were superb actors."

Kate, 12, Wokingham

"I think that this film is worth more than 4 NR rating!! It's really good, I'm going to see it again in half term! Yippee!"

Hannah, 12, London

"What a dud! Two great pirate films have now been spoiled thanks to this joke of a movie! The story was all over the place."

Marie-Claire, 13, Belfast

"I think it was the best yet!"

Alex, 9, Coventry

"So disappointed. I couldn't follow the storyline and I could never tell who was on which side. I thought there were some really random bits that just were totally bizarre! Pirates 1 was the best."

Anna, 13, Belfast

"I saw it Thursday night and thought it was brill! It's a little sad, but very funny. If you go to see it, stay after the credits!!"

Kate, 13, Reading

"I went to see it and I found it extremely unrealistic. It certainly wasn't as good as the first two. I found it a real disappointment."

Hannah, 10, York
