The long-awaited world premiere of the fifth Harry Potter film, The Order of the Phoenix, will be held in Tokyo on 28 June.
The capital of Japan was chosen after the latest Spider-Man sequel opened there and smashed box office records.
But a Warner Brothers spokeswoman said there was "no special reason" for deciding to launch the film in Japan.
The UK premiere, which will see the return of Daniel Radcliffe as Harry, is being held in London on 3 July.
JK Rowling's seventh and final book in the Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will hit shop shelves at one minute past midnight on 21 July.
It's not yet known when the film version will be made.
